Adapting to a challenging environment
The Noordersluis lock presented a unique set of challenges that needed a tailored solution. The confined nature of the chambers made GPS-based positioning unreliable, and accessing the chambers required an unmanned remotely operated vessel.
To overcome these challenges, we adapted our standard workflow and the GEOdrone 3002 was specially configured with:
➼ Tracking total station on shore and prism on the drone: This setup replaced GNSS, providing accurate positioning through a direct line of sight between the drone and the total station onshore.
➼ Non-magnetic course sensor: Independent of the earth's magnetic field, this sensor ensured reliable heading measurements, avoiding interference caused by the reinforced concrete walls of the lock chambers.
This specialized configuration allowed the drone to navigate seamlessly in the lock chambers, gathering detailed data about the structural integrity
